Helt tilbage i 2021 løftede Microsoft og Avalanche sløret for en ny Xbox-eksklusiv IP ved navn Contraband. Der var bare tale om en teaser, men derefter skulle der gå årevis uden et pip fra holdet bag.
Men for ikke så lang tid siden lagde Microsoft endelig projektet helt ned, og satte samarbejdet med Avalanche på pause. Det vides ikke hvorfor spillet tog så lang tid, men det har nu konsekvenser for studiet.
På deres hjemmeside bekræfter de at deres Liverpool-studie lukkes helt, og at dette vil resultere i en stor fyringsrunde.
“This review has led us to the difficult conclusion that we must make changes to our staging and locations. As a result, we are proposing to close our Liverpool studios, and to initiate a collective consultation process, as required by UK law. This will impact all Avalanchers in Liverpool. The changes will also impact our other studio locations in Malmo and Stockholm, where we will reduce our workforce and restructure the teams to address our games’ needs.”
Præcis hvad studiet arbejder på nu synes lidt mindre klart, men måske der er mere Just Cause i kikkerten?
